Users of this book might notice that the prayer at the end of each day's reading falls into one of seven categories: Speak Lord, Petition, Confession, Thy Kingdom Come, Thanksgiving, Offering, or Benediction.
The decision to organize the prayers this way arises out of a concern for prayer's essential purpose: engagement with God. The intention is to provide a resource each day for the reader's engagement with God, rather than that the prayers should serve simply to reinforce the day's message.
On any given day, therefore, the reader may opt to use a prayer other than the one printed for that day, selecting, rather, a category more appropriate to his or her condition.
